"Simple Works" was my second project with Kenny Williams.  We added Ethan Newman on bass, and came up with a collection of 10 eclectic but somehow cohesive instrumentals.  I brought in Mike Detto to do final mixing and mastering, and Chad Banning put together another amazing looking CD.  This record ran the gamut from straight up rock and roll on the title track to acid jazz on "Cog in the Wheel". Recorded from 2004 - 2010. The album cover is an old family photo I found from the late 1930's, probably taken with an old Kodak Instamatic. We didn't have to photoshop anything, the edge blurring was part of the original photo - Very Cool.

Story

Almost left this tune off the record, but I ended up liking the second half of the song, so it stayed.  Old school harmony telecasters on the outro remind me of Derek and the Dominoes even though it doesn't sound remotely like them.

Story

p>Desert caravan traveling music.  The cut was missing something until Chris Gauth added the Rhodes piano track and then it came together.  One of my favorite songs on the record.

Story

A neat little acoustic piece. Taylor 614CE, Fender Stringmaster and Ethan on fretless bass.

Story

Strange chord changes that sat without a melody for a while.  Then it got one, and a harmony line to go along with it.  Props to Ethan Newman for a killer bridge.

Story

Just straight ahead, four on the floor rock 'n roll. In hindsight, maybe a little Dixie Dregs influence snuck in when I wasn't paying attention.

Story

Crazy, awesome polyrhythmic drum track by Kenny that still grooves.  The melody took some time to develop, but it worked.  No idea who this sounds like, which is either a really good or bad thing...

Story

A mid tempo tune that made use of the Chet Atkins nylon string and my then-new telecaster.  Extra bonus points for the mexican radio signal that my guitar picked up at the end of a take, we left it in.

Story

This tune was written by my good friend Andy Brown. Double tracked a Gibson EDS1275 for the rhythm track to emulate a piano.  Lead line was a Suhr strat.

Story

Power ballad complete with period correct 80's chord changes.  Suhr Strat for lead duties for this one.
